Small Office Flooding

Hotel Pipe-Break

Hotel Pipe-Break

After a massive snowstorm in West Hartford, a hotel experienced a sizable pipe-break. A main sprinkler system pipe broke on the top floor pouring gallons of water every minute into the hotel. The water spread down to all five floors in the building and created so much humidity that a mold disaster broke out soon after. SERVPRO immediately dispatched their team and brought 100 dehumidifiers, 200 air movers, and 53 air scrubbers to carefully dry every room to avoid spreading mold any further.

Spend $800 to Save $30,000

A Bloomfield homeowner suffered a major water loss behind expensive kitchen cabinets. The standard procedure would have been to cut through the cabinets to fix the plumbing. SERVPRO of Bloomfield/Enfield chose to save the cabinets by cutting through the pipes below the cabinets. It was a creative solution that cost $800 of repair work to the pipes but saved the newly installed ornate kitchen cabinets that the homeowner said had cost $30,000.

On February 12, 2018, a sprinkler pipe break at a sizable Hartford nonprofit agency damaged about 75,000 square feet of the agency. The agency’s ability to serve clients and keep its employees safe was affected. The agency chose SERVPRO of Bloomfield/Enfield to do all the restoration work. SERVPRO of Bloomfield/Enfield began by performing emergency water extraction of several inches of water. SERVPRO then completely dried the area with industrial dryers and tested for mold and mildew. Next, SERVPRO removed and replaced all damaged building materials. During the work, the team discovered and removed hazardous asbestos and applied an anti-microbial spray. The nonprofit commented on the fast response, professional service, and SERVPRO's ability to safely remove hazardous material.

Partial Roof Collapse in Windsor, CT

Partial Roof Collapse in Windsor, CT

Water damage at a Windsor, Connecticut home caused a partial roof collapse. SERVPRO of Bloomfield/Enfield worked with a construction company to board up the roof, windows, and doors. We also secured a tarp on the roof to protect the home from further damage. And SERVPRO of Bloomfield/Enfield worked with the insurance adjuster on the next steps to restoring the home. This job reminded us of something important: whether you live in an older home or a brand new home--you need to inspect your roof (regardless of the roof’s age) at least a few times a year and make any necessary repairs. One advantage of inspecting your roof frequently is that you may spot small repairs you can make yourself at little cost. Finding and fixing the small issues prevents them from growing into bigger and much more costly issues.

Reversing Water Damage

People living in Bloomfield, Enfield, Granby, or other nearby towns are usually surprised by the science and technology that is required to restore damaged property, when SERVPRO responds to their water damage emergencies. To fight water damage, SERVPRO of Bloomfield/Enfield uses psychrometry, or the study of air and its properties; this includes temperature, humidity, vapor pressure, dew point, and more. Applying psychrometry can lessen the severity of water damage caused by anything from a dishwasher overflow to invading flood waters. It aids in the regulation of humidity and temperature levels. Tools like moisture meters, moisture sensors, and thermohygrometers also lend a hand in determining the amount of moisture that has been absorbed. It's impossible to expel all the water if you don’t know it’s there.

Flood in Simsbury School

Farmington Valley endured a drenching rain in July of 2016. A Simsbury independent school’s storm drain did not have the capacity to carry the high volume of rainwater, so water and mud flowed through an entrance door to the boarding school and onto the floors. The mud and water flooded over 7,000 square feet of space. The school called SERVPRO, and SERVPRO of Bloomfield/Enfield responded within an hour, and had a cleanup crew on the scene in under two hours. It took a total of five days for SERVPRO to complete the cleanup, restoration, and drying. The all-girl school was very pleased with our services and has called SERVPRO of Bloomfield/Enfield for a few other jobs since then!
