The Role of Isolation in Restoration of Mold Damage in Bloomfield
An effective isolation protocol is one of the most important aspects of controlling mold damage in commercial properties in Bloomfield. It is critical to establish robust containment systems that allow the restorers to remediate the contamination without spreading it to the unaffected areas of the building.
SERVPRO techs use various types of containment systems during the restoration of mold damage in Bloomfield commercial properties. A typical system consists of a barrier made using-
- 6-mil polyethylene sheeting.
- PVC pipes.
- wood framing.
- spring-loaded expansion poles.
The barrier prevents the airborne spores and the contaminated debris from leaving the affected area.
The Mold Remediation Process
SERVPRO techs negatively pressurize the contaminated areas relative to the clean rooms after erecting the isolation barrier to prevent cross-contamination due to airborne spores. We use air filtration devices fitted with HEPA filters to establish the negative pressure zones. The HEPA filters are 99.97% effective in preventing particles of 0.3 microns or larger, including most fungal spores, from leaving the containment zone.
In most mold-affected commercial properties in Bloomfield, a pressure differential of about 5 Pascals between the contaminated and clean areas is enough to prevent the movement of spores.
Once the techs set up the containment with the negative pressure, they begin mold remediation. The type of service required for each content item may be categorized in one of the following three ways-
- Restoration: Items that SERVPRO techs clean to remove contamination
- Disposal: Techs dispose of items with heavy contamination or when replacing them does not outweigh the cost of remediation
- Preserve with risk assignment: Techs can restore irreplaceable items can with a risk assignment
